growing. Cosmetic companies are expanding their repertoire of mineral makeup to include an amalgam of colors and products to give different finishes.

When applying mineral eye shadow, there are a few rules you need to stick too. While makeup counter workers will tell you never to apply foundation to the eyes, that rule applies only to liquid foundations. It is perfectly acceptable to apply moisturizer, a very light layer of primer and mineral foundation to the eye as a base in order to get a better, more lasting finish. But remember, if you apply a primer on the eye, your makeup will set quickly. There is very little room for error when using primer under your base.

There are many guides online to teach you how to apply eye makeup in a way that works best for your eye shape, age, skin type and color. It is best to practice a few different styles to figure out what works best for you.

Mineral eye shadows can be used wet or dry. Applying shadow dry allows for a softer, more easily blended, sexy look. When going for the smoky eye, use dry shadow. If you are looking for subtle eyeliner, apply neutral brown or grey shadow with a super thin eyeliner brush. I like to use a dark brown shadow as a liner and use a base eyelid color one or two shades
lighter. I lightly dust a sheer shimmering shadow for a great night time look.

Wet shadow is typically used when you want a bright, fun, long lasting look. Once the shadow dries, it's there all day. It doesn't blend easily, so you must have a steady, quick hand when applying. Practice makes perfect.

Some women use silicone based agents to dampen their shadows, but water works just as well and will cut down on your makeup costs. Simply blend the shadow and water and apply with organic cosmetic brushes, or whatever eye shadow brushes you have available to you. It is never a good idea to use foam tip applicators with wet eye shadow. They will absorb the product and
give a very amateurish finish. To use a wet shadow as a liner, simply apply a wet shadow a few shades darker than what you are using on the lid. It can be applied using a super thin brush.

Which Makeup Color are You?

Which color is right for you? Do you have cool, warm, or neutral undertones? Here is a basic guideline.

You have cool undertones if:

Your skin is: pink, rosy, beige, or brown.
Your hair is: a soft shade of brown or blonde, or dark brown or black.
And your eyes are: blue, gray, or black-brown.

You have warm undertones if:

Your skin is: golden or olive.
Your hair is: golden or red.
And your eyes are: green or brown.

You have neutral undertones if:

You have a balance between warm and cool undertones. Most women have neutral undertones.

If you have cool undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from the cool color family. The cool color family is your pinks and roses and also includes fuchsias, violets, lavenders, grapes, cherries and wines. Pinks and roses are good for cool to neutral skin tones.

If you have neutral undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from one of the neutral color families. Mauves and berries are considered neutral. Hi everyone. Todays entry will hopefully answer a few basic questions that you have about the ingredients that are found in todays Mineral Makeup. I will list the primary ingredients here:

Titanium Dioxide:

Titanium dioxide is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high refractive index (n = 2.7), in which it is surpassed only by a few other materials.
In cosmetic and skin care products, titanium dioxide is used both as a pigment and a thickener.
In almost every sunscreen with a physical blocker, titanium dioxide is found because of its high refractive index, its strong UV light absorbing capabilities and its resistance to discoloration under ultraviolet light.

Mica:

The word "mica" is thought to be derived from the Latin word micare, meaning "to glitter", in reference to the brilliant appearance of this mineral (especially when in small scales).
Throughout the ages, fine powders of mica have been used for various purposes. The shimmer from mica is also used in makeup, as it gives a translucent "glow" to the skin or helps to mask imperfections.

ZINC Oxide:

Because it reflects both UVA and UVB rays of ultraviolet light, zinc oxide can be used in ointments, creams, and lotions to protect against sunburn and other damage to the skin caused by ultraviolet light. It is the broadest spectrum UVA and UVB absorber that is approved for use as a sunscreen by the FDA, and is completely photostable. It is also a main ingredient of mineral makeup.

First you should use the right tool for the right job.
The KABUKI brush or the CMH Essentials powder brush is best used to apply your Foundations and Veils because of the great even coverage they provide. You do not need to have separate brushes for the application of these two products. You can find a good selection of these brushes in our store.

When you are applying your eye makeup, you should use a brush suited only for the application of eye makeup, because these brushes are fine, precise applicators for use when working around the eyes. CMH Essentials also carries the proper eye application brushes in our store.

Here are a few quick tips to get you started. Water can be mixed with any mineral eyeshadow to give a more dramatic effect. This technique will really bring out the shimmer. Just dampen your applicator with a little water and mix it right in the lid. Dark eyeshadows mixed with a little water will also make a great eyeliner.

You should apply a light shade of eyeshadow just underneath your eyebrow; a medium shade to your eyelid and eyelid crease, and a dark shade to the center of your eyelids to the corners.
Colors are your own personal choice. Yellows and soft pinks will brighten your eyes. Neutral tones will create a more natural look and are best for daytime. Shimmers are great for the night life, but they tend to draw attention to fine lines and wrinkles. Mineral eyeliners are best applied wet. You can create bold lines or subtle soft lines. To make your eyes appear larger try only lining the upper lid.

Sunblock and Mineral Makeup

Should I use Sunblock? This is a very good question this month. CMH Essentials does not add sunblock to their Mineral Makeup for two reasons. Number one, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide for a natural Sun Protection Factor of 15. (SPF) is the length of time it takes for someone to burn (x) the factor number, in this case roughly 15 times as long. Secondly, to ADD a sunblocker would take from the naturalness of the product, and CMH Essentials adds nothing to their Mineral Makeup.

Whats new at the Mineral Makeup Store

This month started out with a bang. The first thing you will notice is the new Homepage for CMH Essentials. We decided to revamp the site to make it a little easier to navigate for everyone. We hope you like its simplicity. In "the Mineral Makeup Store" this month we have introduced our new Finishing Veil made with a new miconized rice powder to make it as smooth as veils using corn starch, but without the harmful side effects that one can have with the corn starch. I am confident you will love it. Don't forget we have a Special Order section in the store for our customers who have special requests. It's getting busier and busier here at CMH Essentials. This month at "the Makeup Store" we have introduced a new brush into the Mineral Makeup aresenal . Our new eyeliner brush will be selling for under $5.00 - Come and check it out. The B.O. (Bismuth Oxychloride) in Mineral Makeup

Some cosmetics companies will use it in their cosmetics because it is a very cheap filler. Bismuth does have binding qualities, so the makeup will hold to your skin better, however there are other products that are just as good at sticking to your skin, and are better for your skin. Other than being a cheap filler, it is highly reflective, which is something companies want, because refraction will camouflage fine lines, wrinkles and discolorations. If you use a brand with B.O. you will see a shiny or shimmery, yet heavy look. That's the bismuth oxychloride.
B.O. is a thick, heavy mineral, which makes it difficult for many people to wear. It has to be packed into your pores (buffing application) otherwise it can slide off the wearer's face. The heaviness can and usually does result in clogged pores or irritated skin. B.O often feels silky and fine between the fingers. Mineral makeup companies that don't use it have a lighter feeling makeup that will blend into the skin better and with less effort.

Multi-Use Colors (Shimmers and Mattes)

Eyeshadow:

Use a small brush or sponge applicator to apply shadow over your eye lids, or in the creases, for contouring effect. Apply more than one color if desired. Cover whole lid from lash line to eyebrow, then add another color to lid (lighter color), then one in the crease of the eye lid first using color as a highlight on brow bone blend color just where the meet. Mix matte and shimmer color together. Apply wet for a more dramatic effect or use as an eyeliner. There are to many different ways these shadows can be used, experiment and have fun, with your CMH Essentials Mineral makeup.

Eyeliner:

Can be applied wet or dry. Tap some powder in to the lid, dip eyeliner brush in water and mix with powder to achieve a creamy consistency then apply to eyes. You can make thin or bold line. A small angle brush works best for this. Eyeshadows may also be used as eyeliners.

Lip Color:

You can mix the minerals in with your favorite lip gloss shade to change the color or with a clear gloss to add a boost of color and shimmer. You can apply the minerals to your lips first, and then put a gloss on top of that, or you can apply a gloss or lipstick first and then rub the minerals over that. Foundations:
The best way to apply CMH Essentials foundations is with a kabuki brush, or you can use a powder brush if the hairs are not to loosely apart. You can either tap some mineral powder in your lid and swirl the brush in the powder or dip your brush in the powder and then swirl it in the lid. Gently tap off excess powder on the edge of your lid, with bristles pointed upward. Then begin at the jaw line and in circular motions apply in thin layers until you get the desired coverage you want. You don't want to begin at the center of your face, or the powders will get into your lines and creases. If you still have a few spots that need covering, just take your concealer brush, dip into powders, and apply to necessary areas. Foundations may be applied with a damp sponge.

Finishing Powders:
Finishing powders are applied as you would a foundation. You may use heavier coats to oily areas.

Blushes:
Using your blush brush simply swirl and tap in your lid and apply to cheeks. You can also use to contour different parts of the face such as jaw line, parts of brow, nose, ect. You can apply more than one coats if you desire more color intensity.

Bronzers:
Tap some powder in your lid, swirl and tap your brush, and apply lightly to forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. You can also use for contouring jaw line and parts of brow. In the winter you can also use your tan foundation as a light bronzer.

It is quite understandable in todays market, that everyone wants the well-known, or the (in-brand), but the fact of the matter is when it comes to mineral makeup, it is all pretty much the same, give or take a couple of preservatives, which no-one wants anyway. Mineral makeup, for the most part is made with oxychloride, iron oxide, serecite and mica. A Woman can have any makeup color that she desires with these ingredients.
